"Playing with video games online after being in the camp, I can say, "Wow, I can make these programs myself."

WHEN AND WHERE

The FREE Arts and Animation Camp, funded by the National Science Foundation, will be held M-F July 2-6 (but no camp on July 4th), and M-Sat July 9-14 on the campus of Edmonds Community College in Lynnwood, Washington. Check-in the first day, July 2, is at 9:00 a.m. Camp sessions will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The afternoon of the final session, July 14, will be devoted to camper presentations, and parents are invited and encouraged to attend.

WHY SHOULD I ATTEND?

Learn how computer animation is done and try it yourself in a fun, relaxed, team atmosphere. Learn how to create simple computer animations and games, and add sound, music and video effects to your work. Meet with artists, college faculty, and industry professionals. Earn five college credits in Computer Science 102. Receive T-Shirts, software and other prizes.

FOR PARENTS

Your child will be introduced to the art and computer concepts needed for them to learn how to create their own characters, animations, and games. Classes will be taught by college and university faculty, with guest speakers and mentors from the professional arts and computer animation community. There is no cost to the student, and a daily lunch is provided. The camp is funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation and the Edmonds Community College foundation, which believe that providing a curriculum that integrates art, music, computer animation, and science can enhance the interest of young students in pursuing careers in science and technology.

TRANSPORTATION

Students/Parents are responsible for transportation to and from the camp and for prompt arrival and departure. Unless previous arrangements have been made, student participants will NOT be allowed to leave the camp before 3:30 p.m.

ELIGIBILITY

All camp participants must be entering high school by this fall or have attended high school during the past school year. Neither previous art nor computer experience is required or expected. The camp is limited to 20 students. Participants will be selected by a committee on the basis of character, achievement or potential, and their desire as indicated by the short statement of interest required with the application. Girls and other minorities underrepresented in science are strongly encouraged to apply.

TERMS & DEADLINES

For early admission consideration, submit your application by April 30, 2007. Applications will be accepted until June 8th. Successful applicants will be notified of admission and sent a packet with additional details within one week of the above deadlines. A waiting list will be maintained in case additional openings occur. A $50.00 deposit, which will be refunded upon completion of the camp, will be required at the time of acceptance to hold your place in the camp.
